My eyelash extension journey

Hi guys and happy Saturday!  Today I am sharing my personal experience with mink lash extensions as well as a round of questions and answers to help you better understand the process.

A few weeks ago, I went to see Destiny (a professional at Paradigm Salon & Spa in Pier Park, FL) about getting eyelash extensions because I was curious about the whole process.

While my eyelashes are full, they are also blonde which makes them harder to see and not as long as I would like for them to be.  I’ve tried many different types of mascaras, but I have yet to find one that will accomplish what I am wanting and wear well throughout the day so I figured what the heck, let’s give it a try!

I had so many questions for her and I also had a few of your questions that I wanted to get answered too before I proceeded with the process.

Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen and heard some pretty scary horror stories regarding eyelash extensions so this Q&A was extremely important for me to sit down with her and get her professional opinion

Here are the questions that both she and I were able to answer for you below.

Does it hurt?

It isn’t meant to hurt, the key is to make sure that the patches that they put on top of your bottom lashes are on right, otherwise they can be a little pokey.

How long did it take?

For Classic lashes it can take up to 2 hours, so wear something comfortable.  Also, Destiny was extremely concerned that I be as comfortable as possible, so she offered a blanket and the table was heated.

How long do they last?

They can last anywhere from 2-3 weeks.  She recommended coming in for a fill-in appointment on the second or third week.

How much do they cost?

A Classic Full Set of eyelash extensions are $145. Two week fills are $65 and three week are $75.

Will they damage my lashes?

If applied correctly and properly, they are safe and do not ruin the health of your natural lashes.  You can however damage them if you pick or pull at your lashes and do not follow the aftercare instructions.

Can I shower with them or get them wet?

After a 24 hour period of not getting your lashes wet from the time of the procedure, you may return to your normal routine of showering, swimming, etc.  Just keep in mind the less wet the better.  For best results, try not to get them wet unless you are cleansing them.

How do you care for them?

The best ways to care for your lash extensions and to help them last longer are as follows: Brush and cleanse your lashes with their recommended cleanser kit at least once a day.  Avoid rubbing or picking at your extensions and keep your fingers off your lashes as much as possible.  Every time you touch your lashes, you are transferring natural oil and germs from your fingertips.  Also, sleeping on your back at night is crucial to avoid smooshing your lashes into your pillow.

Can they get infected, if so how do you prevent it?

Yes, if they are not properly cleansed on a daily basis and you do not follow the care instructions.  Some people may have an allergic reaction to the glue used for the extensions.  This is very rare and is explained to every client before the procedure.  There is also a consultation form that every client must fill out and sign prior to the procedure.

Are extensions better for your lashes than mascara?

Depending on what type of issues/allergies you may have with certain mascaras, eyelash extensions can be a great alternative.  They weigh less than your lashes do with mascara.  Also, if you sleep in your mascara, you may be subject to eye infection and sometimes even mites.

*Quick Tip– Do not wear makeup or lotion on your face before heading to your appointment and wear something comfortable.  I would also recommend flip flops as you will need to take off your shoes before getting on the table.  After the first 24 hours of no water are up, brush and cleanse right away and I like to use a blow dryer to dry them on a very low warmth setting (this is my own personal opinion of what has worked for me so far, I want to be clear that I am in no way a professional and advise you to ask before proceeding with blow drying your extensions).  Check out the before and after below.

This after photo was taken a week later to give  you a better idea of what they look like while wearing them after some time.

My experiences have always been great when under the care of the ladies at Paradigm Salon & Spa.  I love knowing that I can trust their services and that they always do a great job!  If you’re interested in more reviews like this one or have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment for me below!

Cheers- Ashley Nicole

Not only that, they also donate a book to a child in need giving you a clear conscious with every purchase.
Shopping is fun, but when you know your dollar goes the extra mile to help someone in need, the experience is so rewarding!

  • Mercury is finally out of retrograde! Did any of you have any crazy technical difficulties last month? I know I did! Just a reminder that even though it is over, we will still feel a little bit of that static cling from the retrograde which can still have an effect on our day to day for another two weeks. They call this the “retro-shade”, but on the bright side last night we had a 2nd new moon or a “black moon” when there are two new moons in 1 month. 🌚

New moons usually mean it’s time for new beginnings and reflection, but a black moon is especially powerful towards these things. This new moon is rising in Leo a sign known for creativity and will help you to learn how to express yourself in creative ways throughout different houses like your work sector, relationship/love sector and so on. 💫

This new moon will be all about self-expression so listen up and open up! Allow yourself to try new things!
This new moon will also allow us to see truths that we may have been denying or it hasn’t unveiled itself to us as of yet. This new truth may cause you to want to pick up and start fresh somewhere, with someone or something new, hence “new beginnings.” Another factor under the reign of this new moon is our need to have and create more self-love. 💛 When we are happy and content with ourselves, we are confident, but we also must remember to respect ourselves and our boundaries and expect others to do the same. If not, it’s time to move on to people that value and respect you the way you do.
Stand your ground and know your worth and don’t let precious time be plucked by those who disagree to give you what you know you deserve.
This also goes for the opposite side of this equation, so if you are not giving others what you expect for yourself, you may see this action as a response to something you may need to work and reflect on yourself in this new beginning.
I always say the door swings both ways so don’t expect it if you are not willing to do the same if not more for them. My tip here is as simple as this: The more you give, the more the universe gives back to you and so on as it is always better to give than receive for the rewards are much greater! Cheers
  • When your wardrobe is ready for fall and it’s only July... 😆🍁🥵 I’m so pleased to have partnered with @wayfair to share this cozy corner as another sneak peek of our guest room/office makeover! ✨
Because this space is also used as my office/craft room, where I like to keep all the crafty goodies tucked away in the closet, I wanted to offer a place for visitors to hang their items so they felt like a guest and not like they are “crashing in the office.” That’s where this free standing closet organizer comes in. Annnd the bonus part is that when it’s not in use by guests, I get to use it to steam clothes or organize what to pack on trips.

That’s WINNING x TWO and to celebrate I want you to WIN x TWO too by sharing this helpful tip: Did you know that if you turn your sweaters inside out when hanging them you don’t get those weird shoulder humps when you go to put them on the right way? Yep! You can thank my Mom for that one! 😉 ✨Sharing all the shopping links for this on the @LIKEtoKNOW.it app! • Flashback to an amazing spring day spent brunching and record shopping with a good friend. The weather was perfect, not too hot yet and the mimosas were tall! Things are finally starting to get back to normal around here after some much needed time away gathering and remembering a dear friend whose no longer with us. This event was also an important reminder that life is precious and I should be more thankful for even my mundane days and all the little things that make it complete even though they aren’t super exciting or glamorous, but you know what? When I have a husband happy to greet me in the mornings and two puppies that think the world of me. Suddenly, my life doesn’t feel so boring, it feels like love and that’s how I know everything will be ok and I was meant to be here. ❤️
  • Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’ve been so disconnected... I’ve been healing and I apologize that I’ve not been as lively over here, but I’ve been dealing with my own dilemmas. I’ve had two accounts of death from cancer just recently. One I kind of set myself up for because I knew there was no cure and another that was totally unexpected... it’s been a rough ride, but I’m still here and I’m happy and thankful that I can be there for others during these hard times. If you are dealing with anything like this feel free to reach out to me. I would love to help support you and always sending love and light your way! .
