REJUVENATE YOUR LIVING SPACE

HOW TO FRESHEN UP YOUR LIVING SPACE AFTER THE HOLIDAYS

My husband surprised me by bringing home a fiddle leaf fig tree the other day and I began to look around for a good spot to place it.  I then realized it was time to rejuvenate our living room from the dreary winter to a vibrant spring space.  It’s funny how after you take down all the holiday decor, you somehow feel like your home is stark and bare which let’s be honest is a little depressing.  I quickly went to Pinterest and started looking for some inspiration and decided that we should start with the shelves on our wall.

I can get a bit carried away when it comes to shopping and my husband often reminds me of it, so this time I decided to only buy inexpensive plants and use what we had around the house.  Luckily I have a closet full of little vases and things that I like to collect for moments just like these.

Lately, I’ve been swooning over the white beachy bohemian styling that I’ve seen on some Austrailian sites and decided to channel it into our home by hanging the vintage cowrie shell necklace and adding the seagrass elements.  I also added a bit of Americana styling to it with the hat and the bandana.

The plants I bought brought a pop of color to our scenery.  I chose a small snake plant and a medium sized golden pothos plant to adorn our shelves for the look but also for the low maintenance.  Did you know that these plants come with benefits?  Both plants help filter out chemicals such as trichloroethylene, xylene, toluene, benzene, and formaldehyde from the air you breathe inside your home not to mention create more clean oxygen for you at night.  It’s a win-win and I can really feel the difference in the air when I breathe (I have terrible allergies).

The floating shelves are made of reclaimed wood, you can find them here and they are exceptionally easy to put up when you have the ship lap look on your walls like this. If you don’t have slats on your walls, be forewarned getting these shelves perfectly straight on drywall can be a huge pain and will cause an argument between you and your husband (trust me I’ve been there).

Lastly, I added some final details like recycled bottles, etc. to bring it all together.

I may end up changing it at some point as I have my eye on a few new things and seasons change after all but at least I got to freshen up our space without spending a ton of money during the first phase of the year.

  • Cold days like these make me want to cozy up with a warm blanket and look through sunny photos of past vacations while day dreaming up our next adventure together.
Last year, my husband and I visited St. John and The British Virgin Islands and we had such an amazing time that I decided to surprise him by capturing our favorite vacation moments with a custom photo book.
Luckily, @google photos just launched a new photo book feature so I decided to try it out and I couldn’t believe how easy it was to create. It literally took minutes to put it together!
If you have an anniversary, birthday, or “just because” dates coming up I would definitely recommend adding your own personal touch with one of these keepsakes!

  • Finally got out and about after being sick for the last few days and found the most delicious tile pattern on the way to my car. This was someone’s walkway leading up to their home (don’t mind if I do). So glad no one was there 🤫 but I had to share because it was the perfect reminder that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places. I hope your day was filled with beauty loves! ✨

  • Really looking forward to the weekend and a little sunshine because it’s been raining here non-stop! ☔️ I’ve def gotten my money’s worth out of my @hunterboots this week, but now I’m ready for a change 👢
  • Does anyone feel weird when the new year starts mid week? It’s kind of like when you’re at the crossing between 2 states with one foot on both sides.... I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m working on moving forward but I’m also having to look back on things in order to get there. Does this make sense? #newyearnewbeginnings #makeitcount #wrapitup
  • Welcoming 2019 with open arms! Last night Jamie (my husband) and I spent a nice quiet evening at home. I made Hoppin John, Collard Greens, Corn Bread, and Pork Chops. We ended the night watching the ball drop from bed and slept in for the first time since I can’t remember when. It was perfect! Just exactly what we needed to rejuvenate ourselves for the 1st day of the year. Today we took down all the Christmas decor and talked about some things we’d like to do/change in our home this year with a fresh new perspective. Lots of ideas sparking over here! Looking forward to new beginnings and new projects! Hope y’all had an amazing New Year’s!
