CREATING A NEUTRAL BASE
Any time I start a new design project I like to start with a very neutral base and build from there. For this week’s challenge, I focused on doing just that with a few staple pieces to lay the groundwork.
This year’s One Room Challenge should really be called the Quarantine Challenge as it has been extremely hard to acquire items as most of the stores are still not open for business and some things just need to be seen in person. Alas, I managed to collect and gather a few things here and there thanks to curbside pickups, Target, and online shopping.
Despite the challenges of COVID-19, I had quite the victory this week and I’m so pleased to share that I was able to snag these very stylish chairs for our makeover.
I had been on the hunt for chairs like these for quite some time now. During my scavenge, I found myself clicking on multiple websites only to find that they were all out of stock. I truly think I had faith on my side the day I stumbled across these, especially because they had been sold-out for quite some time and I did not expect them to become attainable again.
Luckily they had just become available for purchase before I had even received the notification that they were back-in-stock. At that moment of grace, I took no haste in purchasing them as I knew it would only be a matter of time before they were gone again.
The next item that was on our list was a large neutral colored rug. Our hardwood floors are a little darker than I would like and while replacing them is on our current list of things to do, it just wasn’t in the budget for us at this time.
By adding this natural rug, it not only helps to lighten up the palette, but it also frames out the living room space which is very important when working with an open floor plan.
Another reason I chose a neutral rug is to create a base worthy of layering. I absolutely love the look of layered rugs! It adds a cozy touch of luxury and texture without overwhelming the space.
Last but not least, I was able to scoop up a few more small bud vases that I spray a matte white color to group with the others from last week’s DIY thrift project that you can check out here.
Well, that concludes this week’s challenge entry. I hope you found some of these tips helpful and in case you missed it, you can find out more about the inspiration behind our design project as well as our progress in the previous posts below.
